The Road Back
When Perseus had to fight Medusa. He fought her in a cave, also using a mirror from Athena. He used the sword (arrrow) and shield (sun) as well.
Perseus takes Medusa's head and makes Andromeda his bride. After killing Medusa, he quickly left the cave to avoid the other Gorgons and get back to the island. Once there, he married Andromeda.
Return with the Elixir
After Perseus managed to kill Medusa, take her head, and marry Andromeda, they headed back to the island together to live with the others in peace without any trouble coming to them. Perseus thought Polydectes would be gracious.
When Perseus showed Medusa's head to Polydectes, Perseus realized that Polydectes had sent him to Medusa's cave just so Perseus could get killed and Polydectes could marry his mother. Perseus then killed Polydectes.
Perseus, his mother, and Andromeda, now his wife, travel back to Argos. Polydectes' brother, the kind Dictys, was put in charge of the island and its people. Eventually, he competed in Argos funeral games, and accidentally killed Acrisius when he threw a discus, hitting him in the head, and fulfilling the prophecy.
