Well I guess practice is over, I have a math test tomorrow and I am struggling on adding and subtracting unlike fractions
Really the're easy I can help you
Wait but 5 is greater than 4
So the first thing that you need to know is how to make it easier, lets use 3 over 4 and 2 over 4. You know that we have the same denominator. So then you think whats 3 + 2 the answer is 5/4.
Wow, that's really neat
Well you do make a very good point, now think what would be 1 whole 4/4 right? Well 5/4 is 1/4 over 4/4 so the answer would also be 1 1/4
Now lets learn about subtracting fractions lets do 3/4 -2/4. Again we have the same denominator 4. SO lets think what is 3-2=1. So the anwer is one forth.
The last thing we have got to know is what if we have a different denominator like 3/4 +1/2. Lets think can one denominator fit into the other? Well in this case it does, 2 x 2 =4. So this is 2/4 +3/4. From our first problem we know this is 5 over 4.
Wow thanks I am going to rock my test tomorrow.
Anytime! Just remember how to add and Subrtact fractions with unlike denominators
