  • Maycomb children believe he is a horrible person, due to the rumors spread about him and a trial he underwent as a teenager. It is implied during the story that Boo is a very lonely man who attempts to reach out to Jem and Scout for love and friendship. Towards the middle of the book Boo's intentions grow stronger of wanted to be their friend.
  • Dill
  • The Cunninghams are one of the poorest family's in Maycomb. They don't accept anything from people, if they can't return it. They basically work for everything they want.
  • Jem
  • I got your back sis.
  • The Ewells know that they are the lowest of low amongst the whites in Maycomb. They have no money, no education, and no breeding. The single thing that elevates them at any level in the community is the fact that they're white.
  • Mrs. Dubose
  • Dill is a short, smart boy who visits Maycomb every summer from Meridian, Mississippi. Dill is the best friend of both Jem and Scout. His goal is to get Boo to come out of his house.
  • Maybe we can get him to come out
  • Jem is the older brother of Scout. He is Scout's protector and one of her best friends. During the book, the Tom Robinson trial makes Jem loose his faith in humanity. Another fact... Jem ages from 10-13 in the novel.
  • Mrs. Henry Lafayette Dubose, is an elderly, ill-tempered, racist woman who lives near the Finches. Jem believes that Mrs. Dubose is a thoroughly bad woman, although he admires her courage of going through the morphine addiction.
