First, Maui commands his brothers to row far out to sea, until there is no sight of land. A storm begins to unfold, violently shaking the small canoe. As Maui's brothers struggle to keep the boat on course, Maui throws in his line.
His line catches something and as soon as he trys to haul it up, something beneath them starts to stir.
Ta Ha yells "Don't fish right now Maui, I'm scared"
His line was caught on a "great fish" and very soon he had hauled up an entire island.
As soon as he leaves Ta Ha and another brother begin to hack out their share.
Maui went off alone to see the island, telling his brothers not to do anything to the land.
Maui returns and is mad to find that his land now has trees and hills. This is how the north island of New Zealand was formed.
They said, " We helped get here, by rowing the boat so we should get some of this too."
