A long time ago the townshend act began. The Townshend act was led by Charles Townshend. The government taxed lead, paper, glass, tea, and paints. The government did this because they had debt from the French and Indian war.
The colonists did not like the taxes though. They often protested and held boycotts to stop the British government, and their unfair taxes.
There was also loyalists and patriots. Loyalists were people who didn’t want to go against Britain. The patriots are colonists who wanted to go against the British government.
Most of the loyalists were rich landowners. Most patriots were lawyers or farmers though.
If I lived in this time era, I would be a patriot. I would be a patriots because I believe in freedom, and I want to fight for it.
A long time ago there was a patriot named Mercy Otis Warren, who was a writer. She wrote many plays on freedom. She held patriotic meeting at her house with her husband, James.
