Storyboard Text

  • Sarah's Age: 5 months
  • Baby Sarah is born to a traditional Western European parents, on a farm in France. 
  • Look at our baby girl. She's very cute. I can't wait 'til she grows up.
  • Yeah, she would be a great help around the house.
  • Sarah's Age: 7
  • At this age Sarah begins to help around the house and farm. She looks after animals, chickens, and even other working farmers.
  • Sarah's Age: 14
  • At this age Sarah continues to help around the house. This time she cooks and spins thread. She also hears about  factory work in the city.
  • Despite hearing the opportunity to work in the city, Sarah decides to stay in her village. She gets married and begins her married life on the farm.
  • Sarah's Age: 25
  • You are now married.
  • Sarah has the first of 5 children. She cooks, cares for the children, and runs for the farm when her husband is away.
  • Sarah's Age: 26 
  • Billy, don't forget to water the potatoes !
  • Sarah continues do to this work for the rest of her life.  She dies at the age of 36 due to brain cancer. Throughout her life, Sarah was deeply limited in her choice of work.  She was denied education, and had to work on the farm her whole life. Although opportunities were available in the city, profession closed the doors on her because she was female.
  • Sarah's Age: 36
