  • The Storming of Bastille was the burning and destroying of the town prison. This was an extrememly significant step towards democracy because it was the start of the revolution. 
  • burn it down!
  • The start of a revolution!
  • destroy the Bastille!
  • The 3rd Estate made the National Assembly but the king didn't like it so he locked them out of their building. The members met in a tennis court to discuss their options. This was a step towards democracy because they wouldn't be silenced even in tough times.
  • I can't believe they kicked us out!
  • We won"t be silenced! we will keep going until there is change!
  • They want us to give up and be silenced!
  • Let's make a promise not to leave until we have a change!
  • we need a constitution!
  • we need it in writing!!
  • The Estates-General was supposed to fix the problems between the Estates. But the 1st and 2nd Estates never listened to the 3rd Estate and always outvoted them. This wasn't a step towards democracy because it was unfair voting system.
  • How dare you expect us to pay taxes? We, people of the church, pay taxes to our lord!
  • 1st Estate
  • we vote NO!
  • we are of nobility and royal blood! We don't pay taxes to peasants!
  • 2nd Estate
  • HEy! that's unfair! its two against one and we have to pay all the taxes! we're poor! have mercy!
  • 3rd Estate
