The Storming of Bastille was the burning and destroying of the town prison. This was an extrememly significant step towards democracy because it was the start of the revolution.

The 3rd Estate made the National Assembly but the king didn't like it so he locked them out of their building. The members met in a tennis court to discuss their options. This was a step towards democracy because they wouldn't be silenced even in tough times.

The Estates-General was supposed to fix the problems between the Estates. But the 1st and 2nd Estates never listened to the 3rd Estate and always outvoted them. This wasn't a step towards democracy because it was unfair voting system.
