The Articles of Confederation was the first Constitution made during the American Revolution. Under the power of the Articles, the individual states had the most power and the government wasn’t given much.
The most significant weakness of the Articles of Confederation was the states had too much power. This became a problem because the states were disunited since no one would settle their disputes. There should have been a balance of power between the federal government and the states. The federal government couldn’t help with problems within the country at all so they need a balance to unite one another.
The purpose of the Constitutional convention of 1787 was to revise the Articles of Confederation. This was because of Shays rebellion revealed the weaknesses of the Articles. They sent delegates from each state to Philadelphia to change the Articles and the increase the influence the federal power had on the country.
