Storyboard Text

  • Hello, I am James Madison, current president of the United States.
  • I am here to tell your about the War of 1812. During my presidency, I had a very tough decision on whether to go to war with Britain or not. My reasons for wanting war were, Impressment and Native American Resistance.
  • Phase 1 of the war took place in the Great Lakes/Canada region. This part of the war was mostly fought by the Navy, that was led by, Olivier Hazard Perry. He destroyed British fleet ships and forced them to retreat. General Harrison, then followed them and defeated them in the Battle of Thames.
  • The second phase of the war, the British set up ships along American cost line and prevented any goods from coming in and any from coming in. They were able to do this and focus on the war with America with their defeat of France. During this time the British also raided Washington and burned down the White House. The Star Spangled Banner was wrote during a battle that took place in this phase.
  • Andrew Jackson was a war hero during this phase
  • During my phase of the war, the Britsh had attacked and tried to cut off the Mississippi River to stop American trade. The dear president sent me to take them out. We defeated the with our casualties much less than theirs, ours was 71 soldiers, theres was 2,000.
  • This war did bring good to America other than a victory. While being blockaded by the British, Americans learned to make their own goods and provide for themselves. This led to the Industrial Revolution, which led to many other successes.
