  • The French went to war with Great Britain. Some people supported the French and some people supported the British. Some people didn't care and stayed neutral.
  • Jay's Treaty
  • The Neutrality Proclamation was a letter sent to all the people in Europe saying that we will not take sides with any of the European countries that were at war.
  • Pinckney's Treaty
  • Will you talk to Minister Godoy?
  • Of course!
  • Privateers were private ships hired by a country to attack its enemies. Washington will not send private ships because he knows it will start a war.
  • Northwest Territory - Conflict with the Indians
  • FIRE!!!
  • They sent Chief Justice John Jay to talk to the British. They ended up signing Jay's treaty which settled disputes between U.S. and Great Britain.

  • Spain and the U.S. were fighting over the border of Florida. Washington asked Ambassador Thomas Pinckney to go to talk to Minister Manuel de Godoy. He ended up signing Pinckney's treaty which settles the border and trade disputes with Spain.
  • The British gave the Indians guns to fight against the U.S. for them. The Indians won.
