Storyboard Text

  • The big states wish for the number of representatives to be proportional based on population.
  • Small states wish for the amount of representatives to be equal regardless of the states size.
  • A compromise shall be made that is agreeable for both sides.
  • A two-house legislature will be created known as the Great Compromise.
  • In the upper house, the Senate will give each state two representatives.
  • In the lower house, the House of Representatives distributes representatives based on size.
  • Because we are southern delegates, I believe our enslaved Africans should be counted towards the representatives.
  • Yes, because we will gain much more power and say within voting.
  • Because we are Northerners, I believe slaves shouldn't be counted for representation but rather towards taxes.
  • This makes the votes more fair by far because slaves don't have any rights anyways.
  • I heard that some of the delegates thought of a compromise where each slave counted as three-fifths of a person towards population.
  • I know that the proposal was eventually accepted and called the Three-Fifths Compromise.
