Winston is sitting thinking about his entire life in the new place that he rented for him and Julia to meet above Mr.Charringtons shop. He wonders if his and Julia's relationship will work out and will they grow old together while still living a secret life. He also thinks about what Hate Week will bring. The Julia enters and they discuss how she feels the war is fake and the idea of there being a group of rebellers called the "Brotherhood. Winston does not agree but accepts the fact that their outlook on the world is opposite
Winston thinks about all that he has been through in such a short amount of time while he views that city before hate week. He hopes that his ties with his ex-wife will die and he will be able to marry Juli and improve in his work as well.
When Winston returned to work he was stopped by O'Brien and he was super excited because he waited for this moment. O'Brien told him that he wanted to review the updated Newspeak. This event, in Winston's eyes, was the beginning of a rebelling partnership.
