The first movie was The Jazz Singer in October 1927. Made with Vitaphone Many gimmicks were used to lure people into the theatres. Such as, Ladies night, lower rates for women, Cheap Saturday, afternoon matinees for kids, often with free ice cream, and Raffles for appliances and even automobiles.
Some theaters had a children's room. The adults could leave their child with a supervisor to play and they could enjoy the movie.
When the men got bored of watching a movie with his significant other he could go to the Cocktail lounge.
