  • We would like our slaves to be counted as part of our population for taxation purposes .
  • We are supporting the Northern states and we would not like to include slaves into our population because then we would be outvoted by the southern states.
  • We are supporting the Southern states and would like to include slaves in our population for representation in Congress so that we have more votes.
  • We would not like to have our slaves be counted as part of the population for taxation purposes.
  • We have agreed on the Three-Fifths Compromise.
  • This means that three-fifths of all slaves will be counted for representation and taxation.
  • We are supporting the Virginia Plan. We want to have proportional representation in congress with a bicameral legislature. Our plan is supported by most of the larger states.
  • We support the New Jersey plan. That plan gives all of the states equal representation in Congress. Most small states support this plan.
  • I am Rodger Sherman and I have a compromise. What if we combine the two plans and create a plan that satisfies everyone?
  • We now have a compromise using components from both plans.
  • We will have a bicameral legislature with equal representation in the Senate and proportional representation in the House of Representatives.
