Theme: Individual vs. Society (An individual who's always interrogated or accused and is trying to prove their innocence.)
I Did not conjure any spirits!!!
She is innocent I tell you! Now begone!!!
Your wife has been accused of witchcraft.
Abigail, Mercy Lewis, Susanna Walcott, and me were just pretending
Tell the truth Mary!!!
The scene from Act I where Tituba is being interrogated due to being accused of witchcraft shows individual vs society by having Tituba trying to prove her innocence by saying she didn't conjure spirits and confessing her sins to God under the pressure of everyone accusing her.
Individual vs society is shown in this scene from Act II where Hale and Cheever come with a warrant on Elizabeth because her name was mentioned about witchcraft, and Proctor tears up the warrant, claims that his wife is innocent and throws them out of his house showing that he is resisting the system that society has worked out.
In Act III, this scene where Mary Warren is confessing that everything was a lie, shows us the theme by her confessing under the pressure of the other members of society like Proctor and Danforth to get the truth from her.
