This book is about the Salem Witch Trials that happened in 1692, people were blaming other people on seeing witchcraft happen and being punished for it.
The theme we chose is reputation. people care more about their reputation than they do about their own life.
"Abigail: She is blackening my name in the village! She is telling lies about me! She is a cold, sniveling woman, and you bend to her!" Abigail accuses Elizabeth Proctor of telling lies about her which can effect the way people think of Abigail.
Danforth: I cannot pardon these when twelve are already hanged for the same crime. It is not just. He scared that the courts reputation will show that its weak with the amount of people hanged.
Proctor: Because it is my name! Because i cannot have another in my life! Because i lie and sign myself to lies! Because i am not worth the dust on the feet of them who hang! How may i live without my name? I have given you my soul; leave me my name! Proctor doesn't want the public to know that he confessed because he doesn't want people to think differently of him.
Reputation is relevant today because people still care so much about what people think of them rather then what they think of themselves .
