An African American family of four is moving to move to Ohio. It is currently 1925 in Alabama and plenty of other families are moving as well.
Around this time it is common for people to travel by railroads. This family of four said goodbye to Alabama and hello to a better future.
Slavery in the South was bad and extremely dangerous. Many families moved in hopes of better living conditions and a brighter future for their children.
The father worked in a tire factory to be able to provide for the family.
The mother stayed home and worked as a seamstress.
Their children attended a local public high school. After graduating high school many kids either look for jobs or attend college. There are HBCUs such as Wilberforce University and Central State University.
