  • An African American family of four is moving to move to Ohio. It is currently 1925 in Alabama and plenty of other families are moving as well.
  • Around this time it is common for people to travel by railroads. This family of four said goodbye to Alabama and hello to a better future.
  • Slavery in the South was bad and extremely dangerous. Many families moved in hopes of better living conditions and a brighter future for their children.
  • The father worked in a tire factory to be able to provide for the family.
  • The mother stayed home and worked as a seamstress.
  • Their children attended a local public high school. After graduating high school many kids either look for jobs or attend college. There are HBCUs such as Wilberforce University and Central State University.
