Storyboard Text

  • I'm one of the sponsors of the House Bill 95, McElraft
  • How are laws made at the state level?
  • How many times is the bill read?
  • The bill is drafted, introduced, referenced to a committee, considered by the first house and the second house to be read three times.
  • We agree!
  • Let's Discuss...
  • We disagree!
  • McElraft will be introducing the bill at the General Assembly. This bill will be going to the transportation committee and this will authorize permitted oversized vehicles to travel after sunset. This bill may be drafted by a competent person.  The Legislative Services Commission's Bill Drafting division drafts bills at the request of the members of the General Assembly.
  • When the bill is introduced, the Chair of the Rules and Operations of the Senate Committee and the Speaker of the House of Rep. name a committee. Then the Chair will recognize the sponsor of the bill. After the bill has passed its third reading, it is sent to the other house to go through the same process as in the first house.
  • Second house will make changes in a bill which was passed by the house in which the bill originated. If the original house objects to the amendments adopted in the other house, the two presiding officers may appoint members to a conference committee. After the bill passes both houses, it is enrolled and is taken to each presiding officer during the daily secession.
