  • You have defeated us.....
  • In 1911, Yuan Shikai dies and China is split into two camps. In the north, Beijing was ruled by warlords. And in the south, Sun Yat-sen and warlords organized a nationalist government.
  • Long March, 1934
  • On May 4 of 1919, a student revolt emerged out of Beijing. They called for westernization of China so they could establish socialism.
  • Japanese Invasion, 1937
  • In 1928, Beijing was captured by Chiang Kai-Shek and the Nationalists unified China as a republic. Chiang begins to kill thousands of communists and in response, Mao Zedong becomes the leader of the Communists. The Communists are later defeated in battle by the Nationalists.
  • Mao Zendong
  • Mao Zendong led his Communist followers to northwest China where they could be free from Nationalist rule.
  • Let's march to a nationalist free land!

  • In 1937, Japan invaded China and brought the Chinese Civil War to a pause. The Communists and Nationalists agreed to work together. The end result was that the Nationalists were weakened and the Communist armies grew.
  • We must work together to defeat the Japanese.
