Storyboard Text

  • Imagery
  • There had been a silence, a slight crunching sound, and then she had felt the cold, slimy egg-white flattening and spreading on her head and sliding down her neck. (plath 2)
  • Simile
  • "The basement room was dark and warm, like the inside of a sealed jar, Millicent thought, her eyes getting used to the strange dimness." (plath 1)
  • Symbol
  • " first of all, each of you has a big sister. She's the one who bosses you around, and you just do what she tells you." (plath 8)
  • The easiest of which would be her coronation as a princess, labeling her conclusively as one of the select flock. (Plath 9)
  • "Well, I saw you smile at him. That's practically as bad as talking. Remember not to do it again. " (Plath 7)
  • When Millicent was re-thinking this and explaining/ thinking through what had happened. It gave me a clear picture of what had happened and how. It gives me a clear picture on the situation
  • Flashback
  • And then, for some reason, Millicent thought of the heather birds.... (plath 9)
  • « Why waste your time with gophers~" she caroled gaily. "Their tongues are tied, but completely." (plath 9)
  • In this simile ist compares a dark warm room too a inside of a sealed jar. If you were in a jar it would be warm and dark and you would feel very enclosed in that area.
  • Character
  • Everyone in the popular group and initiation club would symbolize the sparrows. The girls are all alike while all talking around Millicent (the ones getting initiation) and telling them what to do. They heather birds would symbol Millicent and how she wants to be alone. To be able to be herself and not have people telling her what to do.
  • Theme
  • " Into the house, gopher. There's a bed to be made and a room to be cleaned at the rep of the stairs. " (Plath 5)
  • The flashback ends and starts when the scene of the basement comes back in the story of her sitting on the wood pile. This is where she was thinking a lot about her choices and thoughts. The flashback in the end of the story is when Millicent made her final decision on what she wanted to do.
  • Bev is a very flat character because she doesn’t really change through the story and always has the same characteristics. Shes very rude and bossy, always telling people what to do.
  • The theme of this story was You don’t need to be popular for people to like you. Don’t judge people by there cover when you don't even know them. Be a leader not a follower that makes bad decisions. Don't just let people tell you what to do.
