  • Before Canada gained control of Rupert’s land, Prime Minister John A Macdonald sent Canadian surveyors to survey the land around the Red River settlement.
  • Prime Minister Macdonald had decided that there would be no self-government in the North West. Macdonald appointed William McDougall to take on the post of lieutenant.
  • My pleasure, I'm glad to take on the post of lieutenant.
  • Canadians planned to occupy Fort Garry. It was filled with all the necessary essentials Louis Riel needed. then, Riel and a hundred men took over the fort.
  • a small group of Canadians had shouted insults during the meetings. They decided to lock them up and One Canadian imprisoned was Thomas Scott, who had attacked one of the Métis. the Métis charged Scott with treason and put him on trial..he was guilty and The punishment was death.

  • prime minister MacDonald had sent soldiers to ensure a peaceful transition to a new government but, the ontario soldiers had another mission which was to hunt down the Métis, for the death of Thomas Scott.
  • the Manitoba legislature had begun but, a group of Fenians who wanted to overthrow British rule, threatened to invade Manitoba. They believed the Métis might have helped but, the Métis and riel help defend the new Canadian province.
  • We will defend the Canadian province.
