  • I'm the President of this land now!
  • We need someone to investigate this revolution and restore Liliuokalani to her throne!
  • We need someone to restore Liliuokalani to her throne!
  • As American residents organized a Committee of Safety, which contained members of the Annexation Club, Queen Liliuokalani tried to eliminate American influence in Hawaii’s government by trying to create a new constitution that would strengthen the traditional monarchy.
  • Let us welcome our new land!
  • Sanford B. Dole, an elderly judge, served as president until the annexation of the Islands took place following the abolition of Hawaii’s traditional monarchy. Sadly, Queen Liliuokalani surrendered her throne soon after.
  • Members of the newly formed government sent members to Washington and applied for the annexation of Hawaii as President, Grover Cleveland, took office.
  • Hawaii is ours now!
  • President Dole refused to give Queen Liliuokalani her throne back demanding that Hawaii should be left alone, generating a new constitution and declaring Hawaii as the “Independent Republic of Hawaii” in the process.
  • This enraged the queen’s supporters! They planned an attack! However, informants quickly told the government, which waited for this attack. They soon arrested the queen along with all of her supporters, forcing Liliukalani to sign a document officially renouncing her throne along the way.
  • As President William McKinley was elected as president in 1896, the Hawaiian islands became possessions of the United States.
