  • 1. Exposition
  • Oh, thank you.
  • Here is a permission slip for the school dance
  • 2. Rising Action
  • 3. Climax
  • In the exposition, the girl names Maya gets a permission slip for the school dance. She really wants to go, however, she knows that her parents won't agree. So she doesn't even want to be bother asking.
  • 4. Falling Action
  • During the rising action, Maya finally gets attention from the boy named Daniel. She is getting thrown around by him, and she knows that Daniel is just kidding. On the other hand, her father, doesn't find it funny and gets very angry with her.
  • 5. Resolution
  • During this scene, since Nurzhan is pretty much the favorite child, he gets anything and everything he wants. On that note, Nurzhan asks his parents to sign the permission slip for Maya, and they agree. But, she has to take Nurzhan with her. She doesn't really mind.
  • 6. Conflict
  • During the falling action, Maya's mother finally that it is different in America and understands why Maya wants to fit in. She gives Maya her old bracelet and Maya treasures it. She feels really happy and feels that her mother really loves her.
  • In this scene, Maya finally gets to go to the dance. She is really happy and has a great time. She feels a little weird at first because he brother is there but he gives her privacy and Maya really was glad he did that.
  • The conflict in this story is man vs society. This is because for most of the book Maya's family is against her. She feels like she is hated. But throughout the book, she realizes that they all love her and she feels better.
