  • We the South, are seceding from the Union due to Lincoln's win.
  • This is the last straw!

  • We are supporters of slavery. And we don't like you too.
  • We are against slavery. And, we don't like you.

  • At the 36'30 parallel, states above this line should be free. States below the estaboished line shall be slave states. Maine shall be entered as a free state and, Missouri shall be entered as a slave state.

  • On November 6, 1860. Democrats were for Stephen Douglas, and Republicans were for Abraham Lincoln. The South threatens to secede if A. Lincoln wins the election, lo and behold, Abraham Lincoln wins.

  • The North had built its economy on manufacturing goods and they had little to no need for Slavery. They also had not experienced what Slavery was about. The South had built its economy on farming and crops which required many slaves and, they were advocates of Slavery. Their views were always opposing and they saw themselves as rivals rather than allies.

  • Compromise of 1850 States shall decides if they are free or slave. California will enter as a free state. The Slavery Trade is abolished

  • Created a line at the 36'30 parallel, the states above this line are Free States and the states below are Slave States. It was to was to ensure that there was a balance of free and slave states in Congress.

  • Slavery is morally wrong and popular sovereignty will result in another Bleeding Kansas.
  • Slaves were forced to be turned in by people, regardless if they had the proper paperwork and they were legal, they had to be turned in. It created a big problem for slaves and those helping slaves flee.
  • As of today, any slaves will be turned into the proper authorities. Slaves that are being looked for shall be turned in if they fit the description provided. 
  • Thanks to this compromise states were able to decide whether they would be free or a slave state. It undermines the Missouri Compromise. In addition, California enter as a free state. States have popular sovereignty. Washington D.C. has banned the Slave Trade. Texas relinquishes their land, pays $10 million to Mexico
  • States will be able to decide.
  • Lincoln was against slavery and Douglas was for the popular sovereignty. It was a face off for the position of Senator of Illinois. It was a debate over state rights and slavery.
