  • daedalus was an architect of Ancient Greece. He built a complicated labyrinth for King Minos of Crete.
  • King Minos imprisoned him and his son, Icarus, in a tower.
  • To escape, Daedalus created a pair of wings for himself and his son.
  • Warning Icarus not to fly to low or too high, father and son escaped the tower flying over Crete and shocking all the residents below.
  • Icarus ignored his father’s warning and flew too close to the sun. His wings melted from the intense heat. Icarus fell into the sea and drowned.
  • Daedulus, in sorrow, named the nearest island Icaria in his son’s memory. He vowed never to fly again.
