  • The Black Death

  • Our soldiers are dying of the plague sir!
  • It was 1347. The Mongols were trying to control Kaffa, a great trading city
  • The Mongols were rumored to have sent their dead soldiers infected with the plague over the enemy walls.
  • The Plague infected rats, fleas, and even humans. On merchant ships, the plague spread to the rest of Europe.
  • The Jews are responsible, kill them!
  • The Gods are unpleased with us!
  • We must pay penance, we have committed too many sins!
  • People started coughing blood, their organs started dissolving and huge bubos appeared
  • More than half the population of many villages and towns are wiped out.
  • A third of the people infected die to the plague.
  • In the end, the plage slowly vanished as the generations ahead became stronger against it.
  • Trade between cities and nations declined but peasants in the feudal system either became richer or revolted against the kings.
