Storyboard Text

  • We need to go with the New Jersey Plan. Every state would have an equal representation in Congress!
  • I think we are better off with the Virginia Plan. Since we have more people, we should have a bigger representation in government!
  • We shall come to a compromise. We will have a two-house legislature, consisting of a Senate and a House of Representatives. The Senate provides equal representation for the upper house of Congress. Every state, regardless of its size, will have two senators. The House of Representatives provides representation for the lower house of Congress. Every state's representation is based on the popultaion
  • Slaves shouldn't be counted for your representation in Congress! It wouldn't be fair to us northern states. We should only count the slaves for taxing purposes.
  • I disagree. Why should we be taxed because of our slaves? I think we should only count the slaves for our representation in Congress.
  • As a compromise, the north and south states agreed that 3/5 of all slaves will be counted for representation in Congress and taxes.
