  • We Small States believe that every state should have the same amount of representation.

  • If we weren't able to have equal representation, then the larger states would completely over power us.
  • We big states believe that representation should be relative to the population so that every free man gets an equal say.
  • If every state had the same amount of representation, then we wouldn't get an equal say in the politics.
  • The Big states want representation equal to population while the small states want representation equal representation for all the states.
  • To compromise, we could have a bicameral legislature where one half is based on population while the other half is based on population.
  • We small states believe that slaves should not count as people for representative purposes.
  • If slaves counted as people, then the slave states would have many more representatives that the free states would.
  • We slave states believe that slaves should count as people for representative purposes.
  • If slaves were to count as people, then we would have a larger say in what happens in out country.
  • The free states want for slaves not to count as people, while slave states want slave to count as people for representative purposes.
  • For both groups to be satisfied we could have slaves worth 3/5ths of a person.
