I'm a representative of the big states. I want representation equal to population!
At the Constitutional Convention, the big states and small states were debating on how everyone would be represented.
We are slave states. We have slaves. We want the slaves to count as people and the slave trade should continue.
Hey there. I'm a representative of the small states. I want equal representation all around!
The smaller states wanted every state to be represented with the same number of votes. The bigger states wanted more votes so they said votes proportional to population.
Works for me.
The compromise was a senate had 2 votes for every state but the House of Representatives was proportional to population.
A debate the states had was whether or not slaves would count as people for representation and if the slave trade was to continue.
We are free states. We have no slaves. We don't want the slaves to count and the slave trade should not continue!
Whatever. Works for me.
The Compromise was the slave trade would continue for 20 more years afterwards and the slaves would count as 3/5 of a person
