Storyboard Text

  • We propose to you that the New Jersey plan will be a huge success. We think that every state should have an equal amount of representatives.
  • It may be a huge success but you barely have a population. We believe that the Virginia Plan is a much better option. We think that each state should have a specific amount of representatives depending on the population.
  • After long hours of consulting with each other, the large and small states came to a conclusion. They decided to have an equal amount of representatives for each state. This was called The Great Compromise.
  • We, the Southern States, believe that our slaves should be counted as population because they are real people, but we do not want to pay taxes for them.
  • No Tax?!? The only way that We, the Northern States, will agree to you being allowed to count your slaves for population is if you pay taxes for them.
  • The Northern and Southern states came to a conclusion. They decided that 3/5ths of the slaves can be counted as population, but the Southern states will have to pay taxes to do so.
