  • Longhorns are important because they are a very strong animals, these mammals were suited to life in texas they can handle the cold weather and the hot weather.They also eat many different plants like prickly pear cactus during droughts because they can survive on little water.

  • After Mabel Day saw several of her fences broken the she decided to talk to the Texas legislature. After a heated debate a law passed that fence cutting is illegal. It also allowed a gate every 3 miles for roads and railroads to pass.The law also banned people from fencing land that they did not own or lease.they sent Texas Rangers out to inform others about the law.

  • The Oil boom affected the local economy by when the oil boom happened it hit it boosted the economic states growth.The oil field attracted many farmers to the jobs in the oil fields.The Texas government started collecting taxes on oil production in 1905.The money raised went to the state government and the education programs.the income from the oil production. Went to the permanent university fund and it grew 2,000 per day.
  • Railroad and Farming
  • Many Texans arrived to the boom towns seeking for work in the oil companies. Besides them there was young farmers that were trying to find new work. Most farmers moved town to town when news of oil strikes. Many boom towns where crowded,dirty, and rough places to live at.The dirt roads of theses town became a mud river when it rained. Many new businesses opened to the new growing population. Gambling and drinking caused violence making boom towns a dangerous place to live.

  • The labor unions was a organizations that supported interest of workers.The unions pushed for improvements in hours,wages and working conditions for the laborers.A strike usually occurs when workers refuse to do their job until a company meets their demands.The labor unrest continued until Governor John Ireland sent the state military and Texas rangers to restore order. Many Texans were upset by the violence and they believed that the strikes and other labor actions threatened the production of transportation of goods.As a result, the unions decreased in Texas

  • Texans eagerly waited for the arrival of rail lines. The economic growth has be slowed down because of the transportation problems.Most of the Texas rivers where to shallow for the boats to go through or they were  unreliable for shipping goods. Unfortunately the dirt roads turned to mud when it rained. When you moved people and goods it was time consuming and expensive.The railroads promised to be cheap,fast and reliable transportation.
