Oprah Winfrey was born on an isolated farm with her father and mother on January 29. 1954. Her name was supposed to be Orpah, but people didn't know how to pronounce it so she made it "Oprah"
Oprah says that her father changed her life, he made sure that she was always in her books doing work, and always made sure that she learned 5 new vocab word a day. she was a changed female.
Winfrey became an excellent student, participating as well in the drama club, debate club, and student council. In an Elks Club speaking contest, she won a full scholarship to Tennessee State University.
Winfrey moved to Chicago, Illinois, in January 1984 and took over as anchor on A.M. Chicago, a morning talk show that was consistently last in the ratings
WInfrey played on the movie called "The Color Purple" , which boosted her popularity so much that more people wanted Oprah, and more people knew who she was.
Even though she is one of the most wealthiest women in America, she made plenty of contributes to charitable organizations which made her stand out the people even more. which makes her even more important to America.
