Helen Keller finally understood sign language and the use of it when her caregiver/helper poured water on her hand & then signed water on her hand.
After fully understanding the system, Keller was starting to make humongous progress (more than anyone expected). She became fluent in braille.
Helen Keller was the first deaf blind person to earn a bachelor's degree. In 1900, Keller got to go the Radcliffe College in Cambridge. In 1904, she graduated with her bacholer's degree. She graduated a Bachelor of Arts degree.
She was a leading member in the American Foundation for the Blind, and she also co-founded Helen Keller International in 1915.
Helen Keller was a HUGE activist. She would speak out for what she believed in, and she was an amazing speaker.
One of her most amazing accomplishments was that she was awarded the PRESIDENTIAL MEDAL OF FREEDOM in 1964, which is the highest medal you can be awarded in the entire United States.
