Where did you get those clothes Sylvie? The dumpster?
The theme of the story is that bullying can hurt people inside and out until they eventually want to change themsleves as a person and can drive them to unnecessary thngs.

"What did your parents keep in the basement? Don't lie. You're lying. just like they did. And you know what else? Your mom got what she deserved. Your father too. Right now, the two of them are burning in hell."
One day when Sylvie was walking to her sister's truck she was stopped by a boy named Brian Waldrup and was bullied. Her sister jumped in and started yelling at the boy telling him to stop. Sylvie imply wanted to leave the area saying to her sister, "Just go. It's easier to ignore him Rose."
I do not feel so well today. I am not going to go today.
She was bullied for her appearance and her clothing. She was bullied until she was forced to go to the mall and spend money that they barely had. She was always worried about what others would think about the clothing she picked thinking, "I liked the dress but worried it looked like one Wednesday Adams would wear, which would only encourage the Brian Waldrups of the world.
Sylvie was also bullied for her parent's previous job. and what her parents were thought to keep in their own house.
Eventually, Sylvie started to not want to attend school and became very self-conscious about everything which led to her living a miserable life for a while.
