  • HI! My name is Jocelyn Bell Burnell. I was born July 15, 1943
  • a My family valued education greatly, and did all they could to help me succeed! I received a B.S degree in physics from the University of Glasgow, and a Ph.D at Cambridge university.
  • It was when I was a graduate student there when I discovered pulsars.
  • Pulsars, are rotating neuron stars, Before I discovered them, scientists did not know the final stage of the life cycle of a star, This knowledge did not impact society very much, but it sure did change the science community!
  • Although I was the first person to discover, study, and document the star, A man was given the award for discovering the star, even though he only aided me after my work.  He was awarded the Nobel prize for two reasons, I was am a women, and I was a student at the time
  • Currently, I am still studying radio waves as an astrophysicist,  and I often serve as a visiting professor at famous collages such as Harvard.   Numerous awards have been given to me for my work in many different catagories if astrology!
