"You got one shot. You hit him wrong, he's gonna go nuts. Got it?"
"Son, what are you doing, you could have got your self killed. Don't you ever do that again."
"Oh my gosh dad, help me! He's coming right at me. I smell his rotten teeth and see a hundred yellow dripping teeth."
"Son, did he get you? Are you hurt? You scared me, you wanna get yourself killed?"
"I'm sorry dad. I didn't know I was that close to it."
Cort went fishing with his dad for fish but came upon an alligator. His dad was calm about it and told him directions on how and where to shoot it. They were hunting at night and they were in Ilinois.
Cort leaned over the side and the alligator jumped out of the water and came inches from his face. After the alligator jumped up, Cort jumped back and fell into the boat. This alligator almost bit his shoulder.
Cort's dad was really scared that he might have gotten bit. His wife died a few years ago and he could not loose another family member. He was mad that he got that close to the gator and disappointed that his son did not listen to his directions. I picked this part in the story because it shows the significance of being safe and listening to directions. If he wold have not leaned over the side, he would not have risked his life.
