I made one mistake, and he's making me pay... STALIN!
Your wages aren't getting raised! Now quit your balling!
All we have left is our house. He took all of our farm animals and implements
We need to follow Stalin so we don't become victims of the Terror Famine.
Thankfully we're not kulaks...
I don't wanna be purged!
Stalin did this to us! He took everything, and now we live in fear.
During Stalin's five-year plans, workers in the factories worked in low conditions. If they didn't do their jobs right, they were punished. Their wages were low and they were forbidden to go on strike. In this picture, the secret ( not so secret ) police are taking someone away who didn't do their job right.
Stalin brought agriculture under their control. Stalin wanted peasants to farm on either state-owned farms or collectives. Peasants were allowed to keep their houses and personal belongings, but farm animals and implements were to be turned over. Some peasants resisted. Stalin blamed kulaks, confiscated their land, and put them in labor camps. Peasants resisted by growing enough grain to feed themselves. The government took all of their grain leaving them to starve, later known as the Terror Famine.
Stalin's Communist party used secret police, torture, and violent purges to ensure obedience. He even violated his people's individual rights. There were no free press, and no safe method of voicing protest. In 1934, he launched the Great Purge. All kinds of people were charged with a wide range of crimes, and put in Gulags. All Soviet citizens were now aware of the consequences of disloyalty.
