When Hitler took control, he used his awful ideas to gain power. He sent out Nazis to collect anyone who he thought of as undesirables, mostly Jewish people. Many families feared for their lives and resorted to hiding, like the Franks.
Anne's family has been in hiding to escape capture. With no one else to talk to besides her family and the others in hiding, she begins to grow lonely. She longs for the outside world and often writes to tell Kitty how upset she is about being alone.
Tensions run high in the Secret Annex. Anne and her mother fight frequently. Anne does not think her mother truly cares. It is revealed that Mrs. Frank cares very much about her after Anne rejects her mother's offer to pray with her.
