Did you know that cells, which are the basic units of structure and function in all organism, are like maggots?
That's so cool!
In fact, a scientist named Francesco Redi conducted an experiment about maggots. From it, he discovered that maggots don't just spontaneously generate, which is a fancy way of saying, they don't randomly appear. Instead, maggots come from eggs laid by flies.
Ewww! That's so gross!
Redi realized that cells are like maggots in that they come from previously existing ones. Rudolf Virchow also agreed with this, and finalized the theory, called the Cell Theory. Another cool fact is that every living things has at least one cell. Even maggots!
