Mr. White and his son sit in the living room playing a game of chess and have a conversation.
Mr. White explains about the monkeys paw which his friend had given him, and how it can grant three wishes, but it was dangerous.
After talking about what the monkey's paw could do, Mr. White wishes for £200, not really thinking much of it.
Mrs. White later greets a man at the door who has come to deliver them some news. The man tells her that their son was badly hurt in an accident at the factory he worked in. She discovered that it was bad enough he died. The man told them that they would be receiving £200, and they understood the mistake they had made.
Mrs. White made her husband wish their son alive. Once he did this he knew that he had wished his dead son to present himself, so he goes back to sleep reluctantlly only to be woken up by a noise downstairs.
Mr. White goes downstairs lighting the way with matches. He realises that it was loud knocking on the door. his wife follows him down and thinks that its Harold so she rushes to unlock the door. This scares the man so he rushes to find the paw, and when he does he makes his third and final wish. Mrs. White opens the front door to an empty street.
