Ulysses and his men arrived at another island so they could eat food and take a break. Ulyses warned his men not to kill the cattle because they were owned by the sun god. The weather was so bad that the crew was stuck on the island for 30 days, and soon there was no food, so while Ulysses was sleeping the rest of his men killed the cattle and roasted them. The next day, they finally headed off the island but the gods punished them, leaving only Ulysses alive.
Chapter 16: Nausicaa
After Ulysses blacked out during the shipwreck, he woke up on an island thinking he was dead. He soon saw a beautiful woman named Calypso who tried to make him stay forever by showing him what would happen if he went back home. This actually convinced Ulysses to go back home more so he asked a man that had been turned into a crow to fly and tell Ulysses what was happening . The gods then gave him a big vessel to go back home.
Chapter 17: The Return
Ulysses left with his big ship and Poseidon spotted him easily so he took revenge against Ulysses by sending big waves towards him. But, there was a woman named Ino who hated Poseidon so she helped Ulysses by giving him a magical veil and Ulysses swam away safely.
Nausicca was a princess and didn't like any suitors that her parents found. One day, she had a dream that if she went and washed her clothes in the river she would find her man. So, she went and washed her clothes in the river and she soon found Ulysses, who wouldn't say his name. This made the servants suspicious and they tried to kill Ulysses. But, Ulysses soon revealed himself as Nausicca sang about Ulysses' trip.
Ulysses finally returned to Ithaca disguised as a beggar, working with his friend, Eumaeus, and his son, Telemachus, to create a plan. They all went into the palace, where suitors tried to kill Ulysses. All of the suitors were trying to shoot Ulysses bow and arrow into twelve rings to decide who would be the husband for Penelope, Ulysses' wife. Ulysses, still disguised as a beggar, shot the arrow into all twelve rings and finally reunited with his family after killing all the suitors.
I rated The Odyssey 4.5 out of 5 stars because the story was very interesting and descriptive. I didn't rate the story 5 out of 5 stars because I felt you could kind of expect that they were going to stop at another island and something bad would happen. Other than that the story was very exciting.
