Prince Siddhartha was born , people were predicting that he would Buddha. His father was not happy about that. He wanted him to be a great ruler. At 16, Prince Siddhartha married princess Yasodhara. They spent the rest of their days happy in their palaces.
Siddhartha wanted now to see the outside world. He then made 4 trips outside, he saw sickness, old age, and death on the first 3 trips. On the four trip he saw a monk trying to end his suffering. Siddhartha wanted to be like him.
The Buddha Teaches
Siddhartha left his family to become a monk. He changed his life style. For six years he practiced severe asceticism hoping it would change him to enlightenment. He endured many hardships in this time. He did not eat very much at that time. He then thought "Neither my life of luxury in the palace nor my life as an ascetic in the forest is the way to freedom. He began to eat nourishing food again and regained his strength.
The Last Years
On a full moon day, Siddhartha sat under the Bodhi Tree in deep meditation. During the night he was visited by Mara, the evil person, who then tempted him to a bad path. As the struggle ended he realized the cause of suffering and how to remove it.
He then went to Deer park.He shared his new understanding with five holy men. For the few years he went from place to place spreading Dharma. He once visited a monastery where a monk was suffering. He than tried to help the monk as much as possible.
Shakyamuni Budda passed away when he was about 80. He left behind a great happy world. The spirit of kindness and compassion remains to this day of him.
