  • We want to be treated equally!
  • Give us change
  • We want our land back!
  • We want to be free!
  • We want to rule ourselves!
  • We don't want to be ruled by Spain anymore!
  • Let's take back the Americas!
  • In 1810, Spain lost land in their large empire, a priest Miguel Hidalgo led a rebellion. He wanted equality and their land back but the Spanish executed him for rebelling against Spain. "Hidalgo called for racial equality and the redistribution of the land" (Page 116)
  • Don't worry that won't happen
  • What should we do?
  • I heard that European countries want to take back the Americas!!
  • THE MONROE DOCTRINE!!
  • Simon Bolivar also The Liberator, was a key part for independence of a lot of countries in the Americas. Also, another man Jose de San Martin achieved independence for Chile and Peru, but by 1824 Spain lost many of their land in the Americas. "...1822 he successfully liberated three territories..."
  • Europe can't get us now!
  • In 1824, Spain lost a lot of land from the Americas. Then four European Countries Russia, Prussia, Austria, and France wanted to help Spain claim its land back in the Americas. "... France, Austria, Russia, and Prussia wanted to help Spain regain its American holdings." (page 116)
  • In the United States people heard that Europe wants to take back the Americas. James Monroe the president comes up with a plan to save the Americas from Europe. "The possibility of increased European involvement in the Americas troubled President Monroe." (page 116)
  • When the US heard about Europe wanting the Americas. President Monroe came up with the Monroe Doctrine. The Monroe Doctrine was about Europe not being to colonize the Americas any more. "The possibility of increased European involvement in the Americas troubled President Monroe." (page 116)
  • After the Monroe Doctrine, Europe can no longer colonize the Americas. This was important now because European countries can't rule over South and North America and the countries that lie within the Americas. "North and South America "are henceforth not to be considered as subjects for future colonization by any European powers." (page 116)
