Losing My Best friend By: Leigha Rauwerdink
Best friends. Most people think the word best friend means that they will never leave each other and will try to get through everything together. But in my friendship that’s the exact opposite. My friendship is very emotional. But through friendship you can get through anything anytime with your friend maybe not in distance but for sure in heart.
As May and I walked through the tall grass with the sun beating down on our faces we stopped and set our things on the blanket we layed down and wiped away the sweat that was dripping down our faces. We both took a long gulp of water as we sat in the shade. There was a cooling breeze that came across us that felt as if God had blew a kiss from the heavens. As we dank our water and rested in the shade May could barely make eye contact it felt like she was avoiding me. I had to say something so I brought up high school, “So, are you excited for high school next year?.....” It was silence “.....Well I bet next year is gonna be the best year of our school history.” I said sounding confident. There was a sudden silence then May started to speak. “Enjoy life today, yesterday is gone and tomorrow may never come.” May said as she tossed a pebble in the pond. My reply? It was silence. It felt like the girl sitting next to me is no longer my friend the May I knew. Where was the smile she had on everyday and that jumpy heart that was always happy? All that was replaced with a serene mask I could not read or figure out. I knew the girl sitting besides me wasn't the real May and that something's wrong. "May your not being yourself is there something you need to tell me because nothing you say can change our friendship." I said. "I know I've been acting different lately but I need you to be here for me....and please don't be mad." May replied. "Ok I promise" "Ok so my dad got a new job....." May said with a tear slowly rolling down her cheek. "....And it's really good" "Wow May that's great!! But why are your eyes teary?" I said nervously. " The new job is in Texas and we are moving tomorrow ." May Said while she sobbed. " May," I said as I teared up "it's okay we can get through this together right?" " I guess but I will barely ever see you!" She mumbled. " It's going to work out but why didn't you tell me this earlier?" I asked. "Because I didn't know how to tell you" May told me.
Next day. (Moving day) “May wait!! Before you go I want to give you this…” I said It was a locket of us standing in our favorite spot with each other. “... and just so you know Goodbyes are not forever, are not the end, it simply means I’ll miss you until we meet again.” I said as I started to sob.
“ Courtney, remember how we said we would get through anything together, we will maybe not in distance but forever in our hearts.” May said all teary as she hopped up the bus stairs and slid into an empty seat. As I waved to the moving bus I couldn’t help but to cry and cry.
As I stopped in front of May’s house started to tear up but then I saw her in the window and started to sob I quickly jumped out of the car and ran to the door there May was standing there crying as I jumped in her arms and then I said, “ How strange is it that after all that we are still best friends and will be there for eachother forever”
