- As the Mali empire declined in the 1400s, a new empire was on the rise, the empire of Songhai.
- I am the emperor of the Songhai people, Sunni Ali, and I built this empire with my strong army.
- I conquered cities and expanded my empire.
- I am Asia Muhammad and I kicked Sunni Ali's son from power with a revolt. I made an efficient tax system for my people and appointed officials.
- Even though Songhai was wealthy, it was not advanced enough with weapons. Without guns like other empires, the Songhai empire eventually fell.
