  • Tom Walker and his wife are described as miserly and bitter towards each others. The couple even goes as far as hiding money from each other. 
  • Rising Action (pt.4)
  • One day Tom took a short cut through the swamp. Which also symbolizes working for the money he's taking a short cut in life which will have consequences later on.
  • Rising action (pt.5)
  • She probably put up a good fight 
  • After Tom realizes his wife took everything and has nothing left he decided to go back to the devil and make the deal and becomes a usurer in Boston.
  • Falling Action (pt.2)
  • Tom went home and told his wife and told his wife he probably won't take it. Being greedy his wife takes all the valuables and runs away to find the devil and make the deal.
  • Later, maybe a week. Tom finds a liver and heart which are belived to be his wife's. Readers think that the wife put up and a fight with the devil but lost.
  • Hearing of Tom's disappearance the town decides to reposes Tom's house and valuables. However, when arriving they found nothing.
