Storyboard Description

Maureen was slowly drifting away from the family and was taken care of by her friends families. She started practicing Pentecostalism. Later on, Rosemary went to go renew her teaching degree and gave Jeannette some money. Her father ended up constantly asking her for money and eventually she was fed up and wanted him to pay her back. He ended up taking her to a bar where he could gamble for her money and more. At the bar she meets a man named Robbie and ends up dancing with him. He later on takes her upstairs and tries to assault her. After this incident she needed a better job and found a jewelry store hiring, and decided to go work there. While she worked a woman asked her if she was earning any commision she said she wasnt. Then she decided to steal a watch because she really wanted one and because it is what she should be payed. Later on she felt guilty and decided to return the watch. Then she stated taking the money she earned put it in a piggy bank she named Oz, and started saving to help get Lori to NYC.

Storyboard Text

  • Maureen accepted Pentecostalism and she was constantly baptized. Her mom just let her continue doing her own thing instead of stopping her or anything. Quotes: " She got baptized more than once and was all the time coming home proclaiming that  she'd been born again" (Walls 206-221).  &"Once she insisted that the devil had taken the form of a hoop snake with its tail in its mouth,  and had rolled after her down the mountain, hissing that it would claim her soul" (Walls 206-221).
  • Her dad owns her money so he takes her to a bar to get the money  and orders her beer instead of a sprite.  Quotes:"Twenty dollars?" I couldn't believe Dad was pushing me this far. "Why twenty?" (Walls 206-221). & "He had borrowed a car, an old pea-green Plymouth with a broken passenger-­side window, and we drove through the mountains to a nearby town, stopping at a roadside bar" (Walls 206-221).
  • Robbie dances with her and almost assaults her when they go upstairs. Quotes: "After all, the only thing he'd done was dance me slow and put his arm around me" (Walls 206-221). " He squeezed my bottom, pushed me onto the bed, and began kissing me" (Walls 206-221).
  • She went to go make more money to help fund for Lori's trip to NYC and for food, so she went to work at a jewelry store. Quotes: "He hired me on the spot for forty dollars a week, in cash" (Walls 206-221). "...we were about to run out of grocery money; and my babysitting income wasn't making up the difference.(Walls 206-221).
  • She found a watch that she really liked and no one bought it so she decided to steal it. Quotes: "I had always wanted a watch"(Walls 206-221). "....I opened the display case and took out the four-­band watch. I slipped it into my handbag and rearranged the remaining watches to cover the gap."(Walls 206-221).
  • She needed a place to keep her money so she bought a piggy-bank where he could start saving the money. Quotes: " I decided the next day I'd go to G. C. Murphy and buy a pink plastic piggy bank I'd seen there."(Walls 206-221). " I'd put in the seventy-­five dollars I had managed to save while working at Becker's Jewel Box."(Walls 206-221).
