Storyboard Text

  • You are not aloud to move west of the Appalachian Mountains.
  • Proclamation of 1763
  • Stamp Act
  • Listen up! We are going to tax you on everything paper! That includes newspapers, letters, and even playing cards.
  • Boston Massacre
  • FIRE!
  • This is important because this is the event that started most of the anger towards Britain. In this event, Britain orders a proclamation in hopes that it will stop some of the conflict between the natives and the colonists. The proclamation orders that the colonists cannot move west of the appalachian mountains.
  • Boston Tea Party
  • no taxation without representation!
  • As punishment for the boston tea party, we are closing the boston harbor.
  • This is important because it was where Britain taxed everything paper. This act required colonists to pay for an official stamp when they bought paper items. If they did not get the seal, then they could be sent to jail. This act is important because it even taxed things like playing cards and newspapers.
  • Intolerable Acts
  • This is important because on that day, the colonists did a protest. They headed towards the taxation place throwing snowballs, brandishing clubs, and yelling fire at the British soldiers. Soon more colonists showed up to protest, and the British fired into the crowd. No one knows who really yelled fire, but the British fired anyway. Three men were killed that day. The British soldiers went to court and were deemed not guilty.
  • First Continental Congress
  • We need to figure out what to do about all these new laws the british are passing
  • This is important because on this day, about fifty colonists dressed up as native americans and boarded a ship full of tea. As part of a protest, they dumped over one million dollars worth of tea into the Boston Harbor. This is a big protest because tea wasn't just important to England, but the colonies too which meant they really didn't approve of the new tax on tea.
  • The intolerable acts were something put in place to punish the colonists for the Boston tea party. They British closed the Boston harbor. This was so extreme, the colonists thought it was intolerable, hence the name the intolerable acts.
  • The first continental congress is important because it was the first meeting between the colonies to discuss what to do about the british. They basically talked about the laws the british were passing and what to do about it. They were the more laid back protesters.
