  • Hippo's have animals that eat off the ticks and other annoying creatures that are on their thick skin. Birds, wagtails, and egrets help to keep the hippo happy and healthy.  The birds eat flies and ticks to prevent anything that can harm them.

  • A Herd Of Hippos
  • It doesn't look like a lot of the hippos are paying attention because they are under the water, well the hippos actually they can hear with their small tiny ears. Their ears pick up the smallest sounds and also they have a good sense of smell.
  • When a mother hippo is ready to give birth, she goes into the water and hides in a small corner of the river so when she is giving birth a lot of the water animals won't bother the baby hippo when the baby is trying to get up to the water surface.
  • As you know the hippo love the water and they also, like to travel in herds of schools.  A herd holds up to 10 to 20 cows and calves. Some of the herds like large one contain 100 hippos and lead by females. When a male hippo wants in the herd he has to get permission from the female hippos.
