Storyboard Text

  • Exposition
  • Rising Action
  • Climax
  • Maya arrives at Riley Bay where 3 otters are living.  Maya is very certain she is the only person that knows about these otters and will do anything to protect them. Maya's parents and brother Saul are not very fond of her going to Riley Bay because they believe it is dangerous, but she disobeys their commands.
  • Falling Action
  • Maya was not happy with her brother and dad going out to Riley Bay without her so she decides to spy on them. She sees her dad associating with other men in a boat who then push her father into the freezing water. She leaps out of her hiding spot and jumps in her kayak to save her dad. After a long struggle, they both make it to shore safely.
  • Resolution
  • After spreading the word that sea urchins were in the area as a trap to attract the poachers, Maya encountered a dangerous interaction. Later on, when everyone had left the steak out, the poachers arrived. Maya was able to capture pictures of the poachers. She went home to show her brother Saul and they quickly discovered one of the men in the photos was the coast guard Mark who they had trusted.
  • Theme
  • Once Saul and Maya find out Mark is helping the poachers, the two decide to investigate further. They arrive at Riley Bay where the poachers continue to search for sea urchins. The siblings were spotted along with the otters. The poachers used their boat to fence in Maya and Saul against rocks, in an attempt to flip their kayaks. The third poacher then chased after the siblings and maked a pursuit towards the otters.
  • As the chase came to an end, the boat with two poachers aboard became stuck, after following Maya and Saul through a large area of kelp. The siblings then led the third poacher into a root filled body of water where his tank latched on to a root. Therefore, imprisoning him and making him unable to move. Saul had earlier called the police who took the three poachers to where they rightfully belonged. Maya's mission to save the otters was fulfilled.
  • Having trust in your family and telling the truth can result in surprisingly positive ways. For example, when Maya finally decided to tell her family the truth about the sea otters, locals formed together to protect them. Maya originally thought if she was the only person who knew about the otters she could protect them. Although, she was mistaken and only put them in more danger when she lied.
  • There are sea otters in Riley Bay and they need our help.
  • Why didn't you tell us earlier?
